French Alscace by bike

Leymen to Oltingen and back How to get there ?
This round trip excursion of some 15 Kilometer contains only slight gradients.

Duration ?
As a family this is a full day excursion

Age ?
Children from the age of 10 years.
A gourmet experience is not the only reason for a trip over the border from north-west Switzerland as the thinly populated Sundgau area of the neighbouring department of Haut-Rhin in Alsace welcomes cyclists with a network of good roads with little traffic and many attractions at the roadside.

For novices and families, we can recommend an easy tour starting from Leymen. If you don’t want to cross the border with your car, you and your bike can be transported to the starting point by the number 10 tram from Basel.

Under your own muscle-power, the tour first returns briefly to Switzerland at Rödersdorf and from there, via Biedertal and Wolschwiler to Oltingen. In Oltingue, as it is called in French, as well as a halt for flammekuchen, Munster cheese and a glass of Alsace white wine, a visit to the early medieval church or the farmhouse museum would be highly rewarding.

Strengthened in mind and body, even the slightly testing climb on the return journey via Liebenswiler to Leymen should pose no problems.
