The year 2006 was the first year of common marketing by the STG in the whole region between Pforzheim and Basel, Rhine and Neckar.
The first year of common marketing was promptly successful: For the first time more than 6 million arrivals (+1.7%) were counted in the accommodations. The number of overnight stays however decreased by 0.7%. This can in particular be explained by the trend towards shorter trips.
On the whole, guests of the 3,135 guest houses and accommodation establishments in the region stayed overnight for 18.42 million times. This corresponds to a capacity utilization of 31.8%. The average duration of stay lies with 3.1 days clearly above Baden-Württemberg’s average of 2.7 days. According to market research results, about 40% of the overnights stay with friends and relatives and therefore have to be counted on top of the overnight stays in commercial accommodations. Altogether, we can therefore assume a number of 28 million overnight stays in the holiday destination of the Black Forest.
Out of the 6.04 million registered arrivals in commercial accommodation establishments, 19.7% are coming from the European Union. 2.7% of the tourists are living on other continents. The arrivals out of the European neighbouring states went up by 6.7% in comparison to the previous year and now result in 1.19 million, the overnight stays even went up by 9.26% to 2.9 million now. The Swiss were holding the biggest part in 2006: 781,157 overnight stays (+8.7%). They were followed by the Dutch with 608,410 (+8.0%), the French with 272.022 (+10.4%), and the Belgians with 252,391 (+8.5%) overnight stays.
